 FTP(File Transfer Protocol) :- 


FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP which was one of the first tool on the internet. It allows user to move files such as test, graphics, sound and so on from one computer to another.



Gropher :-

The second type of information retriever to every level on the internet is Gropher. It is menu based interface that provide easy access to information residing on special server called Gropher.

Gropher sides although gopher perform primarily The same test as the FTP command. Its interface is much more user friendly and its provide additional function such as links to another internet service.


Modem :-

Modem is define as a device that is used as modulator and demodulator. Modem is used to convert analog signal to digital and digital signal to analog.


Modem can be define as:-


modem is a program or device that is used by the computer to transmit data to telephones or cable lines. The information of the computer is stored digitally where as information transmitted over telephone line transmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts digital data into analog data and vice versa.


A part from transmission protocol. there are number of features. distinguishes one modem from another some of the feature that distinguish one modem from another are as fallows.

1. BPS (Bits Per Second)


BPS is defined as how fast the modem can transmit and receive data for slow rates the term that is used to measure in terms of BPS. The fastest mode run at 57600 BPS.


2. Auto Answer


An auto answer modem enables your computer to receive call in your absence.


3. Data Compression

Some modems perform data compression which enables them to send data of faster grids. However the modems at the receiving end must be evil to decompose the data using the same compression technique.

4. Fax Capability


Most modem can send and receive faxes. A fax modem is like regular modem except that it is use to transmit documents to a fax machine or to another fax modem.


5. Voice / Data

Many modems works both voice and data modems. In data modes the modem acts like a regular modem. In voice made the modem acts likes a regular telephone.
